Mount Kailash is located in the Kailash mountain range of the Trans-Himalayas. For Hindus, Buddhists, Bonpo and Jains alike it is the most sacred mountain in the world, attracting thousands of pilgrims every year to circumambulate the holy mountain by foot in the belief that it brings good fortune. This tour starts in Kathmandu with a day to explore the colourful and vibrant city including iconic cultural and religious sites. From there you will be taken overland through the stunning scenery of the Tibetan plateau to Mount Kailash where you will complete your 3-day Parikrama of the holy Mountain. Once completed you will return to Kathmandu overland.
DAY 1: KATHMANDU (1,400m)
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and be met by a representative of Getaway! Himalayan Eco Trekking. Transfer to hotel.
Tour of Kathmandu city.
DAY 2: KATHMANDU
Sightseeing in Kathmandu including a visit to three UNESCO world heritage sites including Pashupatinath Temple one of the most sacred Hindu Temples of Nepal, located on the banks of the Bagmati River the temple is where holy sadhus come to pray and cremations are carried out; Swayambhunath, an iconic Buddhist temple offering stunning views of the Kathmandu valley and Patan Durbar Square. You will also have the opportunity to visit Budhanilkantha with its statue of the sleeping Lord Vishnu and the Tibetan Refugee Centre with its fabulous selection of carpets
Optional extra: early morning Everest Mountain flight.
DAY 3: KATHMANDU – NYALAM (3,750m) (165km)
5 hour drive to Nyalam, crossing the border into China at the Friendship Bridge. At the bridge the Chinese guide will meet you and from there you will continue your journey to Nyalam via Zangmu where you will complete immigration and customer formalities. Overnight at guesthouse in Nyalam.
DAY 4: NYALAM (3,750m)
Free day in Nayalam for acclimatization. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 5: NYALAM – SAGA – PARYANG (4,450m) (555km)
14 hours drive from Nyalam to Saga crossing Lung La Pass (5,000m) with great views over the Himalayas including Mount Sishapangma and crossing Peiku Lake and Brahmaputra River. Overnight in Saga at guesthouse.
DAY 6: PARYANG – LAKE MANASAROVAR (4,558m) (270km)
10 hour drive from Paryang to Lake Manasarovar stopping at the Mayum River for lunch. First sightings of Holy Mount Kailash and Holy Lake Manasarovar. Overnight at Chui Gompa.
DAY 7: LAKE MANASAROVAR – DARCHEN (4,600m)(40km)
Morning puja by Manasarovar Lake. 1.5 hour drive from Lake Manasarovar to Dharchen, the base of Mount Kailash. At Darchen, those wishing to visit Asthapad can do so. Please note this will be at an extra cost. Overnight at Darchen.
DAY 8: FIRST DAY OF PARIKRAMA. DARCHEN – DIRAPHUK
Morning drive from Darchen to Yama Dwar where you will enter the holy gate. Onwards drive to Tarboche. From Tarboche you will start your Parikrama. 5 hours of walking with views of the north face of Mount Kailash. Overnight in tents at Diraphuk.
Yatris not completing the Mount Kailash Parikrama will return to Darchen and await the return of those completing the Parikrama.
DAY 9: SECOND DAY OF PARIKRAMA. DIRAPHUK – ZUTHULPHUK (20km)
4-5 hour trek from Diraphuk up to Dolma La Pass (5,800m). 4-5 hour trek down to the bottom of the valley. Overnight in tents at Zuthulphuk.
DAY 10: THIRD & FINAL DAY OF PARIKRAMA. ZUTHULPHUK – PARYANG OR DONGBA (4,600m)
10km trek from Zuthulphuk to Chongdo where you will be collected and driven to either Paryang or Dongba. Overnight in either Paryang or Dongba.
DAY 11: PARYANG/DONGBA – NYALAM (455KM)
Drive from Paryang to Nyalam. Overnight at guesthouse in Nyalam.
DAY 12: NYALAM – KATHMANDU(165km)
5 hour drive from Nyalam to Kathmandu, crossing the Friendship Bridge at Kodari. Overnight in Kathmandu at hotel.
DAY 13: DEPART KATHMANDU
Transfer from hotel to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport for return flight.
