Considered by many as one of the easiest trekking trails in Annapurna region, Poon Hill trek is truly a gem when it comes to trekking in the Himalaya and enjoying the nature at its best. However, it offers some challenging walks if the trek is commenced based on the regular itinerary. Hence, in order to make it a senior friendly and to let the trekkers enjoy more of what it offers, this Poon Hill Trek for senior citizens includes slower pace and less walking days and more time to relax and comfort.
This trek offers some great experiences of trekking through Himalayan villages coupled with the opportunities of getting insight into the unique culture and lifestyle of local Magar and Gurung people. Magar and Gurung are two of major ethnic groups of Nepal who are from around this region. One of the best view points of the region, Poon Hill is the ultimate destination of the trek which is known for offering stunning views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurnas, Machhapuchhre and many more mountains. Besides, the beautiful places like Tadapani and Ghandruk village will also offer some great views and the opportunity to observe culture and traditional lifestyle of the villagers.
Besides this Poon Hill trek senior citizens version, we have the regular itinerary. For trekkers who prefer to go with the most standard itinerary, we will arrange accordingly.
Outline itinerary:
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu. Welcome and pick up from airport and transfer to hotel. Introductory briefing.
Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu valley. Guided tour to monumental zones.
Day 03: Morning flight to Pokhara. Sightseeing of Pokhara.
Day 04: Trekking starts. Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga, (1540m), 5-6 hours
Day 05: Trek to Banthati, (2300m) 5-6 hours
Day 06: Trek to Ghorepani, (2860m), 3-4 hours
Day 07: Hike to Poon Hill, (3210m), Rest and exploration day at Ghorepani
Day 08: Trek to Tadapani, (2630m), 6-7 hours
Day 09: Trek to Ghandruk village, (1940m), 3-4 hours
Day 10: Trek to Birethanti and drive back to Pokhara, 4-5 hours. Rest and relaxation in Pokhara
Day 11: Flight back to Kathmandu. Free time relaxation and shopping etc
Day 12: Departure day. Transfer to airport and fly back home.
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival you will be greeted and welcomed by our representative at the airport. You will then be transferred to the hotel booked for you. A pre-departure meeting will be scheduled as time permits. During the meeting, you will be introduced to the leader/guide who will be guiding you all throughout the trek. You will also be briefed about the program that starts from the next day.

Day 02: Guided city tour of Kathmandu
Today you will be visiting various cultural, historical and architectural monuments of the Kathmandu. The centuries old monuments are full of legends and beliefs and the Durbar squares of medieval Kathmandu are full of intricate carving and superb collection of architectural riches. The qualified and experienced tour guide will lead you and show you around. The time after tour is for preparation for your trip.

Day 03: Fly To Pokhara.
A scenic flight of approx 25 minutes will take to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. After checking in to hotel and getting freshen up, you will time to explore the city. Enjoy your time and make preparation for the trip

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1570m), 5 – 6 hours
The trek starts with a drive by private transportation to Nayapul. From here we begin our trek along the bank of Modi River up To Birethati. The trail from here moves through villages along the northern bank of Bhurungdi River and reach Tikhedhunga. Today’s trek is easy and a prelude for the tougher next day. Overnight here.

Day 05: Trek to Banthanti (2300m) 5-6 hours
The toughest day of the entire trip, today you will only be climbing uphill. After crossing a suspension bridge at Tikhedhunga, the trail ascends steep stone staircases until it reaches Ulleri at 2080m, a beautiful Magar village. The trail then gently goes uphill through cultivated fields, villages and pastures.

Day 06: Trek to Ghorepani (2860m), 3-4 hours
The trail from here further goes through beautiful forest of rhododendron and oaks and climb gentle uphill to reach the day’s destination, Ghorepani where you will be greeted with stunning mountain views.

Day 07: Hike to Poon Hill (3210m) and back. Day in Ghorepani.
The highlight day of the trek for the hike to the famous view tower of Poon Hill located at the height of 3210 which bestows the jawdropping Himalayan panorama of the majestic Dhaulagiri, Annapurnas, Fishtail, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli and many more. The mouthwatering view will make you entire trip a worthwhile. Walk back to Ghorepani. Rest of the day for a rest and exploration at Ghorepani.

Day 08: Trek to Tadapani (2630m), 6-7 hours
It’s a longer day walk. The trek to Tadapani starts with a gentle ascent to Deurali with beautiful mountain views before going downhill through lush green forests. The view along the trail is marvelous. Tadapani is also another great place to witness the grandeur of mesmerizing mountains.

Day 09: Trek to Ghandruk (1940m), 3-4 hours
Today is an easy day as it includes only approx 3-hour walking through beautiful forest of oak, rhododendron and other vegetations. Stunning sceneries along will make your walk even easier that you feel as if you made it to the beautiful village of Ghandruk in no time. This is one such charming village where you could observe traditional lifestyles, occupations, culture at first hand. The breathtaking mountain view of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre , Gangpurna and more will enthrall your day. You could explore the village and its cultural riches in the afternoon.

Day 10: Trek to Birethanti and drive back to Pokhara
The trail descends through beautiful terraced fields and villages until it reaches Syaulibazaar, on the bank Modi River. The beautiful views won’t stop you greeting all along. From here the trail goes ahead on the bank of river until Nayapul. Drive back to Pokhara takes approx 1 hour by private vehicle. Rest day on your own.

Day 11: Fly back to Kathmandu
Morning in Pokhara. Take a flight to Kathmandu. Rest of the day for relaxation or any shopping etc.
