Mount Kailash is located in the Kailash mountain range of the Trans-Himalayas. For Hindus, Buddhists, Bonpo and Jains alike it is the most sacred mountain in the world, attracting thousands of pilgrims every year to circumambulate the holy mountain by foot in the belief that it brings good fortune.
The Nandi Inner Kailash Tour is one of the most sacred and challenging kora for devotees. This tour starts in Kathmandu and takes you overland through the stunning scenery of the Tibetan plateau to reach the foot of Mount Kailash. The circuit of Mount Kailash usually takes 3 days.
DAY 1: KATHMANDU (1,400m)
Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and be met by a representative of Getaway! Himalayan Eco Trekking. Transfer to hotel.
DAY 2: KATHMANDU
Sightseeing around Kathmandu to UNESCO world heritage sites including Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu Temples of Nepal, located on the banks of the Bagmati River the temple is where holy sadhus come to pray and cremations are carried out; Swayambhunath, an iconic Buddhist temple offering stunning views of the Kathmandu valley; and Kathmandu Durbar Square.
Optional: early morning mountain flight for close up views of Mount Everest.
DAY 3: KATHMANDU – NYALAM (3,750m) (165km)
5 hour drive along the Arniko Highway to cross the border at Kodari. After completing immigration formalities, enter the Chinese Autonomous Region and drive 3 hours to Nayalam. Overnight in guesthouse near Zhanmgu on the Tibetan Plateau.
DAY 4: NYALAM (3,750)
Free day in Nayalam for acclimatization. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 5: NYALAM – SAGA (4,450m) (250km)
7 hour drive to Saga crossing the Thong-La Pass (5,200) with magnificent views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival at Saga all passengers will have a consultation with a medical practitioner to check for signs of altitude sickness. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 6: SAGA – PRAYANG (4,700m) (255km)
7 hour drive from Saga to Prayang – the world’s highest town. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 7: PRAYANG – MANSAROVAR (4,558m) (270km)
10 hour drive from Prayang to Mansarovar passing several rivers and crossing Mayum La Pass with spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayas. Overnight camping in Hor Qu with stunning views of Mount Gurula Mandhata (7,728m) as well as views of Trugo Monastery and Chiu Monastery.
DAY 8: MANSAROVAR – DARCHEN (4,600m) (40km)
Morning puja by Mansarovar Lake. Afternoon drive to Dharchen, the base of Mount Kailash. Overnight in Darchen.
Optional: Day trip to the hot springs at Tirthapuri (140km) located on the Sutlej River for one hour pilgrimage route.
DAY 9: DARCHEN – ASHTAPAD (4,900m)
Drive to Sheralung Gompa. From Sheralung Gompa 5km walk to Ashtapad. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 10: NANDI PARIKARMA
Start Nandi Parikarma. Return to Sheralung Gompa or alternatively 8-9 hour drive to Darchen via Sapat Rishi Cave. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 11: DARCHEN – DIRAPHUK (5,000m)
Drive to Diraphuk. Overnight in guesthouse.
DAY 12: KAILASH PARIKARMA
Trek through Khande Salung, passing Dolma La. Overnight in camp / guesthouse.
DAY 13: KAILASH – HORE VILLAGE – MANSAROVAR
Final day of Kailash Parikarma. Return drive to Hore Village via Darchen. Overnight at guesthouse.
DAY 14: MANSAROVAR – PRAYANG
10 hour drive from Mansarovar to Prayang. Overnight at guesthouse.
DAY 15: PRAYANG – SAGA
7 hour drive from Prayang to Saga. Overnight at guesthouse.
DAY 16: SAGA – NAYALAM
7 hour drive from Saga to Nayalam. Overnight at guesthouse.
DAY 17: NAYALAM – KATHMANDU
8 hour drive from Nayalam to Kathmandu. Overnight in hotel.
DAY 18: END OF TOUR
Departure day. Drive to Kathmandu International for onward journey to your own destination.
